Since 2007 POS Networks have worked alongside the Morrisons IMAC team to install LAN & WAN hardware and patch all services for new build and acquisitions large and convenience stores. The experience and knowledge acquired over the years along with the relationships we have with many of the Morrisons IT teams means we can deal with and if necessary, escalate issues that occur during a new store build
Morrisons provide us with the layout drawings, from this we will build the Patching Schedule/LAN Infrastructure document detailing how many switches are required and their individual VLAN configuration. We balance devices across the switches for resilience in the event of a switch failure. The patching schedule is made available to other 3rd parties (e.g. ITAB, NCR, Vodafone & Bizerba) to aid them during their installation and to ensure that resilience is adhered to.
This document is referred to in the event of having to do fault finding or tracing a device. Knowing what device is connected to which switch port is invaluable. Since 2016 we have also installed the rack-mounted servers as part of our scope for New Stores.
A large part of what we do is to liaise with main building contractors to ensure the fibre & copper data and power is to specification and presented correctly at new comms cabinets and at the device end. We have built good working relationships with the building and electrical contractors over the years and are the eyes and ears for the IMAC team when on site during the essential IT build, hand over and go-live stages, ensuring that IT issues are dealt with as soon as they raised.
